I'm happy to announce that we added this very popular feature to Helprace. From now on you can allow your users to submit topics without login/signup.

Thank you for your suggestion, Gadis.

In Helprace you can submit a ticket (request) without authentication. It will just ask you for a contact email, so that an agent could reply to you.

In the public community we only allow posting and voting after registration, sign up with a social account, or after authenticating via SSO. Spam prevention is not the only reason. By registering the community users get many benefits:

  • they will receive an email when someone responds or votes in their topic
  • other users can see their activity in the community
  • they can follow desired topics (without having to enter their email every time)
  • they can upload an avatar (it's nice to see a discussion with real faces than with a bunch of auto-generated avatars, it feels more humanly)
  • users will be notified about the status changes of the topics they created (e.g. when Idea is completed, Problem is Solved, etc)
  • users may misspell their emails & be unreachable. This is impossible with registration (need to confirm email).

Community administrators benefit from having registered users:

  • you know who your customer is (name, email, sometimes his company, position and Facebook/Twitter page)
  • participants can be notified of updates you make to topics
  • pro-actively reach your customers once they participate in your portal
  • continue discussions privately if needed
Ask user his/her email address instead of asking to Sign Up / Social Login

The whole sign up process puts off the user.

User can sign in using their Facebook, Twitter or Google account to save time.

By the way, if user is submitting a ticket, registration is not required - we only ask for their email.

Thank you for the response.

Great! I feel asking the email might suffice in case of other things too. May be some captcha can also help reduce the spams. That would still be faster than whole sign up process.

Thanks anyways,

VK
Firstly, Helprace is a great tool without any doubt. I did play around with the features and I'm very much impressed with what I saw. The only concern I have is :- Anyone with a valid email id should be able to "Ask a question, Share an idea, Report a problem & give praise" without having to "SIGN UP". Not many are interested in signing up and at time they seem to drop off.

"Submit a feature" has been implemented perfectly where someone with valid email can use it without having to "SIGN UP".

SIGN UP should never be criteria for anyone who is willing to contribute. Just have a captcha and email field to avoid spam

There is a problem with allowing anyone to post with just a valid email and without a registration. Someone could use your email and post on your behalf in that case.

@Edward: That's at least better than dropping out as soon as the see register option.

Just my 2cents :)

That's why they see the register option only when they typed in their idea/question ;)

Hi Edward!

This is my case:

I'm dev process right now, I think that having your tool is great for PM and other stakeholders to write issues and learn from what exist in the "Knowledge Base". Using this tool for my company will increase the chances when we go live and be used by end users.

So right now I cant use it because of 2 reasons:

  • guest users  ( or SSO like we talk will be available this month )
  • Impossible to have a private dashboard ( this is a must, the app has confidential issues right now)

We have the money to pay, I don't want to have all free but if the people who you need cant use your tool nobody wins.

Just my 3 cents :)

By the way, SSO is already available and the issue you've mentioned has been fixed. Feel free to give it a try! :)

Hi Edward,

Any plans of letting the guest users to share an idea without having the need to register?

Sorry, Vinay. It is not planned yet. We'll keep monitoring this thread though.

I'm pretty sure that feature will be a game changer. If it's implemented I will surely endorse helprace personally through my blog and website :)
