Import knowledge base articles from Word, HTML or RSS feed

Would love to be able to import knowledge base articles from Word or HTML documents.

Or from an RSS feed. That might even be the easiest to implement.

I like to use Clarify to create my help docs, and it can export to Word, PDF and HTML, or to WordPress.

Thank you for your suggestion!

Would you also like to import images from these Word or HTML documents?

Aye. Importing images is the most important part! That's the bit I have the most difficulty with in the current process.

I can make the document in Clarify, export it to WP, copy and paste the text content into Helprace. Then export the images from Clarify to a folder and upload those into Helprace and insert them where they need to go in the article.

Currently, that is about the most streamlined I can get it.

The alternative is to build straight into Helprace, and use a screen snapper (like SnagIt). Again though, it is clunky.

Maybe Helprace could incorporate in the article editor a screen snapper and annotator...! :D

Importing images is the most tricky part, especially from Word. I believe that we would be importing them from HTML format when this feature will be implemented.

By the way, Helprace has an option to import multiple HTML documents from .csv file. If there is an image within that document, it will be preserved as is. The image <img> tag will point to the same location (i.e. URI) as it was in your import file. If it points to an image on a public website (rather than a local image on your computer), it will be displayed properly to the users.

Thanks, Edward. I suspected that about images in the CSV. Not sure my host allows cross site loading of images though. :/

The real problem at the root of my original request is finding the simplest method of getting annotated screenshots into a Helprace article.

If you added an image editor with annotation (I'm sure there's plenty of javascript ones out there), and I could paste an image from the clipboard, then I could do everything in Helprace, which is my ultimate goal.

I'm probably being fussy and probably because I've been using Clarify.

Importing from CSV is not that useless :D At least you can upload multiple articles (or even all of them) as is. Then you can "fix" the images. By the way, it worth giving it a try - maybe your host does allow cross site image loading ;)

Also, did you know you can drag'n'drop images to the image upload window?

We've discussed plenty of possible solutions in this topic. Good food for thought!
